Betty Boop

This is a Betty Boop cake I made for my neighbors birthday. I carved her head out of a half sheet cake and piped the buttercream decorations.

Skull Fire!!!

My brother and cousin are in a band named Skullfire. Both of their birthdays were this week, so I thought it was a good idea to make them a Skullfire cake and bring it to their show.

Spiderman Cake

I had this idea to make this cake 2 brick buildings, and have spiderman webbing between the 2. A bit ambitious, I know, and it came back to haunt me. The first time around the taller of the 2 fell on my kitchen floor :( So heres where I went wrong - Although the first cake and buttercream i used were very tasty, they were not practical. The cake and buttercream were to soft to stack that high, so the second time around i had to sacrifice the taste a bit and I used a sturdy pound cake and stiff buttercream to build the cake, and it worked much better. Don't get me wrong, it still tasted good but my 1st cake tasted much better, its just not suitable for building this kind of structure. The brick work is done with a press that i ordered online, I really like it. spiderman was molded out of fondant, he was a pain in the butt also, he didn't want to stay together for me.

Erin and Wally's Engagement Cake

I was asked to make a cake for my cousins engagement. They wanted a 3 tier cake with bright colors. I used a few techniques I learned from the Wilton flower classes, and some from a new gumpaste flower book i recently purchased.

Beach Bridal Shower Cake

This cake was made for a beach themed bridal shower. The palm tree's are pretzel rods with gum paste leaves, the seashells, wedding ring, and fish are a mix of white chocolate and milk chocolate, and the crabs are fondant.  It's a bit cutesy, but thats what I have fun doing.

Wilton Cake Class

I recently took 2 Wilton cake courses at Michael's Craft Store. Both were 2 hour session, once a week for four weeks. The first class was basic cake decorating, which consisted of making icing, icing the cakes, piping borders, buttercream roses and other simple designs. The second class was gumpaste and fondant, where we learned how to make a number of different flowers, cover cakes in fondant, and quite a few different decorating techniques. I had a great time taking these classes, and I plan on taking the other courses they have to offer in the future.

France!

This spring I was in France for 5 weeks. The first 4 weeks I was in a town in the south of France, Cap D'Agde and it was probably the best experience of my life so far. The last week I spent in Paris. It was an amazing learning  experience and just an overall great time. I love France, and I cant wait to go back. I have alot of pictures, I figured I would post some of the best, the rest are on my facebook page.

Cakes, Cakes, Cakes

The title is pretty self explanatory right? Cakes from birthdays to babyshowers and graduations.

Avatar Cake

So, my boyfriends sister is a fan of the Nickelodeon show Avatar so I made this cake for her birthday. The fondant is just marbled blue to look like the sky, Ang is made from fondant, and the blue and white circles around the border are just white chocolate candy melts.
